If you're partial to Indie music and the Indie sound, the UK's Rainboot label has a new holiday sampler you'll likely appreciate. They had discussed making it a freebie, but decided instead to raise a little money for Save The Children. On December 6, this collection should start showing up at the digital retailers, but you can get it now for a donation of just £1 (about $1.60 American) by purchasing through Bandcamp. Of course, you're welcome to give more. All the money raised--100%, every last penny, all of it--will go to Save The Children. "Christmas Gift" starts off with an excellent Indie Pop/Folk track from The Animal Beat and, really, the whole collection surprised me with the overall quality of the songwriting and performances. Especially given that Rainboot is known for their many glorious Lo-Fi releases. Once again, you needn't take my word for it; Bandcamp allows you to preview the tracks in full before you buy. And you can pick up "Christmas By The Sea" as a free download on the label's web site. I have a feeling I'll be revisiting this one when I have a little more time. Highlights for me on first listen included the opening track, The Whiskey Priest interpretation of "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", and April Maybe May's "Christmas In The Sun". Travis Tucker does a very nice job with "O Holy Night", too.
